Family Dollar Worker Caught Stealing: Joliet Police

Joliet police arrested the 41-year-old Joliet man on Tuesday afternoon at his place of employment.

JOLIET, IL — A Joliet man who worked at the Family Dollar store at 861 North Larkin Ave. was hauled away in handcuffs Tuesday afternoon after Joliet police say he was stealing hundreds of packs of cigarettes from the store and re-selling them to make a profit.

Lorenzo Morales was booked into the Will County Jail on felony theft charges, according to Joliet's Police Department. Morales lives in the 1800 block of Asbury Circle, jail logs show.

Around 1 p.m. Tuesday, Joliet squad cars arrived at the Family Dollar to investigate a theft. At that point, Morales was being detained by fellow members of the store, members of the store's loss prevention team.

Joliet police say that Morales had stolen more than 300 packs of cigarettes over a period of time.

"Morales was interviewed at the Joliet Police Department at which time he made statements indicating that he was selling the stolen cigarettes for financial gain. Morales then transported to the Will County Jail," Joliet police reports show.

Morales was scheduled to appear before a Will County judge for a bail hearing on Wednesday afternoon.
