Felony DUI For Joliet Motorist, 55, After Black Road Crash: JPD

Joliet resident Michael Verbic, age 55, became one of the Joliet Police Department's last felony arrests in 2023.

JOLIET, IL — A 55-year-old Joliet motorist who crashed into another car while driving at Black Road and Midland Avenue is now facing felony charges to begin 2024. Michael Verbic became one of Joliet police's last arrests for 2023. Officers took him away in handcuffs and brought him to the downtown police station on charges of aggravated DUI and DUI.

Verbic later walked out of the police station after receiving his notice to appear in court. Verbic comes from the 1200 block of Oakland Avenue, his arrest logs show.

According to Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English, the following events happened shortly before 9 p.m. on New Year's Eve:

  • At 8:56 p.m., officers responded to Black Road and Midland Avenue for a crash.
  • Verbic was driving a Ford F150 westbound on Black Road approaching Midland Avenue when he tried to make a left turn at the intersection to travel southbound on Midland; his truck collided with a Honda Insight driven by a 23-year-old Plainfield man who was eastbound on Black Road.
  • No injuries were reported from the crash.
  • At the scene of his crash, Verbic demonstrated behaviors consistent with alcohol impairment. He refused to perform field sobriety tests, and he was placed into custody without incident. Verbic was also cited for improper turn at an intersection and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, and his vehicle was towed from the scene.
