JOLIET, IL — There was no damage caused to Will County's $215 million new courthouse following Monday morning's mulch fire outside the building.

At 9:20 a.m., engine 1 from the Joliet Fire Department responded to the mulch fire at the Will County Courthouse at 100 W. Jefferson St.

Fire Chief Greg Blaskey said the crew found the mulch on the north side, near the flag poles, was burning. The fire was extinguished with no damage to the surrounding area or the building. The mulch was recently applied to the area. High winds contributed to the growth of the fire, which is ruled as natural or improper disposal of smoking materials, Blaskey noted.
