JOLIET, IL — A 34-year-old suspected drunken driver who isn't supposed to be driving, crashed a Ford Mustang into a fence and garage in a back alley on Joliet's east side, resulting in his arrest on Friday, according to Joliet police reports.

Officers responded to the alley in the 600 block of Virginia Street and took Carlos Hernandez-Aguirre into custody, giving him a Notice to Appear on two counts of aggravated DUI, possession of a controlled substance, aggravated battery to a peace officer and obstructing justice. Joliet police say Hernandez-Aguirre was booked into the Will County Jail because he already had two outstanding Will County warrants for his arrest.

Friday's single-vehicle crash happened around 4:20 p.m.

  • The Ford Mustang driven by Hernandez-Aguirre was westbound in the alley when the car struck a fence and garage. No injuries were reported.
  • While speaking to the police, Hernandez-Aguirre displayed behaviors consistent with alcohol impairment, so he was taken into custody. Officers recovered cocaine while searching Hernandez-Aguirre. • Following Friday's wreck, Hernandez-Aguirre was also cited for Driving While License Revoked and Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident.
  • Back at the police station, Hernandez-Aguirre became angry and grabbed the arm of an officer and refused to let go. Hernandez-Aguirre refused to cooperate with booking procedures, so he was taken to the Will County Adult Detention Facility.
