Forest Preserve Offers Frida Kahlo Exhibit Programs

Enhance your “Frida Kahlo’s Garden” exhibition experience with complementary programs being offered by the Forest Preserve District of Will County at Four Rivers Environmental Education Center, 25055 W. Walnut Lane, Channahon. The exhibition runs through March 16 at Four Rivers.

The free programs are:

Joliet Junior College Student Group Latinos Unidos: 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23. Latinos Unidos has a mission to share culture and history through education and student leadership. Join Latinos Unidos and participate in some hands-on Frida inspired arts and crafts.

Artist ROHO Garcia: noon-3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24. Award-winning designer Erick “ROHO” Garcia will demonstrate his artistic style and his “Life is Art” philosophy during this program. The Mexican-American artist, born and raised in Joliet, now works in Chicago in one of the most cultural and artistic neighborhoods, Pilsen.

Art Lecture – Frida 2020, Contemporary Connections: 11 a.m.-noon Saturday, March 9. Justin Witte, director and curator of Cleve Carney Art Gallery at the College of DuPage, will deliver a presentation about the continued relevance of Frida Kahlo in contemporary society more than six decades after her death. “Frida Kahlo’s Garden” is a free traveling exhibition that explores Kahlo’s connection to nature and transports visitors to her garden to experience the world as she did. Exhibit hours are Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.; Thursdays, 10 a.m.-7 p.m.; and Sundays, noon-4 p.m. This is the exhibit’s second stop on a five-year tour of the nation.
