Foundation's Native Plant Sale Moves Online

The Nature Foundation of Will County's annual in-person sale has been canceled and moved to an online format due to COVID-19.

The Nature Foundation of Will County's "Bringing Nature Home" Native Plant Sale, held annually at The Sugar Creek Administration Center in Joliet, will now be offered online with home delivery of plants due to the new coronavirus pandemic.

The Nature Foundation of Will County’s "Bringing Nature Home" Native Plant Sale will be held online this year due to the new coronavirus pandemic.

The previously scheduled in-person plant sale and pre-sale have been canceled.

“In the midst of gearing up for what was sure to be our biggest and best native plant sale, Covid-19 was taking hold across the world,” Foundation Executive Director Cindy Harn wrote on the group's website earlier in April. “As such, we have canceled the Bringing Nature Home Native Plant Sale scheduled for May 15 and 16, 2020. While it has been a difficult decision, we know this is the best course of action for our public, guests, exhibitors, volunteers, Board members and staff.”

Harn announced Wednesday, April 22, that arrangements have been made with Possibility Place Nursery in Monee for the online sale of plants and home delivery. Details and plant ordering links are listed on the Foundation's website. For more information, call the nursery at 708-534-3988.

A portion of the proceeds from the plant sale will go to the Foundation. All Foundation fundraisers, including the plant sale held annually at the Sugar Creek Administration Center in Joliet, benefit the Forest Preserve District of Will County by way of Foundation donations for programs, events and initiatives. Harn said she is hoping the Foundation can offer a fall tree and shrub sale to make up for some of the lost revenue from the May plant sale, and she thanked those who have supported the event in the past.

“One of the things that makes our native plant sale a success is the incredible outpouring of support, financial and otherwise, from our local business community,” she wrote. “When we made the decision to cancel the plant sale, we knew we might lose financial support; support that we rely on to fund projects that protect nature, help bring people and nature together and enrich lives. But, when faced with the choice to join us on this journey or withdraw support, our local businesses leaned in! We could not be more thankful for their support during these difficult times.”
