Sports fan, nature lover, and loving family man

Gary William Michael Engelhardt

Of Joliet, left this life on Monday, June 24, 2024 at the age of 64.

He was a man who found joy in the simple things in life. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time in nature to garden, fish, and to marvel at the beauty of the Rocky Mountains in Colorado. He was a Chicago Blackhawk and Bears fan, as well as a cowboy movie enthusiast. He will be remembered and cherished for his devotion to family, love of nature, service to his country, and the pride he showed for his name by drawing a heart with angel wings.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents Julius and Cecelia Engelhardt, and brother Larry. He is survived by his beloved children Arriela, Julia, Caleb, and Sarah (Tyler Howell) Engelhardt. His legacy will continue with his cherished grandchildren Victoria Ford and Amelia Lincoln. He is also survived by his sister, Sandra Engelhardt.

To honor Gary and his love of the mountains and his service for his country, part of his cremated remains will be placed to rest at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery and the rest will be scattered in the Rocky Mountains by family.

A Memorial Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 3, 2024 from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. at the Carlson Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home (2320 Black Road, Joliet). Inurnment with military honors will be held at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery at 2:30 P.M.
