JOLIET, IL — A 29-year-old Chicago man who Joliet police say gave officers a false name following a loose dog incident is now lodged in the Will County Jail facing numerous charges. Joliet took Diquane Sheard away in handcuffs over the weekend on two charges of obstructing justice, plus an arrest warrant from Clinton County and one from DeKalb County.

The events leading to Saturday's arrest trace all the way back to Dec. 3.

According to Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English, that night, around 11:40 p.m., officers responded to a house in the 1000 block of Oakland Avenue for an animal complaint.

"Following the disposition of this call for service, it was learned that the male that officers had spoken with had provided a false name," English announced.

The man was later identified as Sheard, and he held active arrest warrants for missing court on previous charges of aggravated battery in Clinton County and domestic battery in DeKalb County.

Last week, Joliet police obtained an arrest warrant for Sheard on two counts of obstructing justice.

Then on Saturday, at 11:05 p.m., officers responded to an apartment in the 1000 block of Lois Place for a disturbance. There, officers found Sheard and placed him into custody without incident for the charges listed above, English noted.
