Glasgow To Honor Jim Stewart's Legacy At Blood Drive

Tuesday's Taylor Babec Community Blood Drive goes from 7:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. Walk-ins are welcome.

JOLIET, IL - It's been two months since a beloved member of the Joliet law enforcement community, James "Jim" Stewart, died on Nov. 9 after an illness. The retired captain at the Joliet Police Department who went on to become an investigator for Will County State's Attorney James Glasgow was 64. On Tuesday, Stewart's legacy will be honored by Glasgow and representatives of Heartland. A special plaque will be given to Stewart's widow as a token of gratitude for her late husband's amazing streak of donating blood over the years.

The ceremony honoring Jim Stewart is set for 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Will County Children's Advocacy Center, 304 N. Scott St. in downtown Joliet. Tuesday's Taylor Babec Community Blood Drive goes from 7:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. Walk-ins will be welcome, a press release notes.

"Before he became sick, this beloved local law enforcement officer followed a strict blood-donation regimen, having scheduled as many as six appointments per year since 1987. During that period, he made 160 donations and gave an astonishing 20 gallons of blood. His donations over the years provided life-saving transfusions to 480 patients who had been in collisions, suffered serious injuries, or undergone medical procedures," a press release issued by the Will County State's Attorney's Office notes.
