Grant Park Police Lieutenant Jailed For Alleged Niece-Sex Fired From Department
The lieutenant was suspended without pay during a state police investigation.

A Grant Park police lieutenant charged with having sex with his niece was fired the same day he was arrested and jailed.
Lt. Stephen Nardi, 45, spent the night in the Will County jail and is due in bond court this afternoon. He was charged with one count of criminal sexual assault.
Grant Park Police Chief Carl Frey said in a press release that his department was alerted to the Illinois State Police investigation of Nardi and suspended him without pay.

“The Village of Grant Park was recently informed of an ongoing investigation undertaken by the Illinois State Police concerning a lieutenant with the Village of Grant Park’s Police Department,” Frey’s statement said. “Although the conduct under investigation did not involve the Village of Grant Park or its police department, and was unrelated to the lieutenant’s employment with the village, the village nonetheless took this matter very seriously and immediately placed the lieutenant on unpaid administrative leave pending the results of the ISP investigation.”
And Tuesday—the day the state police arrested Nardi—Grant Park fired him.

“Upon learning of the arrest, the officer’s employment with the Village was immediately terminated,” the statement said.
Nardi, a Steger resident, served as Grant Park’s acting police chief in 2013.
