Grant's to Reopen for 'Going Out of Business' Sale
The appliance chain closed its five locations, including Joliet, in October.

With lawsuits pending from both customers and lenders, Grant’s Appliances will reopen Thursday for what the store is calling a “going out of business sale.”
Signs on the windows at the 321 Republic Ave. location in Joliet advertised the sale this week.
The sale begins Thursday, Dec. 11, with hours of 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, the Herald-News reported. It’s unclear how long the sale will last.

The Joliet-based chain closed all its stores, including locations in Downers Grove, Orland Park, Aurora and Merrillville, Indiana, in October.
Since then, customers have complained of paying for items but not receiving them, and lender Summitbridge Credit Investments IV LLC filed a complaint against the owners of Grant’s and its Joliet properties alleging that the company failed to make $10 million in mortgage payments.

The 90-year-old retailer is undergoing an assignment for the benefit of creditors, which is similar to a bankruptcy, according ot the Illinois Attorney General’s Office.
A complaint against Grant’s filed by a Joliet resident was dismissed on Dec. 1, according to Will County court records. Since the closing, customers have also taken to the Internet to voice complaints about the abrupt closing.
