Great Joliet Prison Break-In Set For August
Joliet's Chamber of Commerce is helping organize the charity fund-raising event.

JOLIET, IL - In less than three months, Joliet community leaders are planning to hold a major bash along Collins Street at the Old Joliet Prison, but only 3,000 people can attend. Last week, Joliet Chamber President Mary Jaworski appeared on 1340-WJOL radio to unveil plans for what's being dubbed as "The Great Joliet Prison Break-In." The event will be Saturday, Aug. 25. Chamber officials have been coordinating the event with the city, the Joliet Area Historical Museum and Joliet's Police Department.
The event will include live music, entertainment and lots of food. Chamber officials said they are in the process of landing a Blues Brothers tribute band, because, well, you can't have a party at the Old Joliet Prison without having a tie-in to the world-famous movie.
During her interview on WJOL, Jaworski said they could easily accommodate between 4,000 and 5,000 people, but they decided to cap the number of tickets at 3,000.

"We felt we'd rather be safe than sorry," she said. "This has never been done before."
Jaworski vowed that the Aug. 25 Joliet Prison Break-In will be a truly memorable and remarkable event. Organizers are in the process of finalizing the details. An announcement on how to purchase tickets for the event should be forthcoming in the early part of June.
