Gunshot Death: Attempted Murder Suspect Flees To Wilmington Area
Grundy County sheriff's deputies pursued the fleeing suspect, who was wanted by Aurora police in the shooting of his wife.

WILMINGTON, IL — An attempted murder suspect fleeing from authorities in Aurora took his own life by shooting himself in the chest late Monday morning near Wilmington, according to Will County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Dan Jungles.
Grundy County Sheriff Ken Briley issued a press release indicating that the attempted murder suspect who took his own life was Jeffrey Emerson. He was a 56-year-old Oswego resident, according to the coroner of Will County.
Separately, Jungles told Joliet Patch that deputies from his agency tried to save the man's life after he shot himself, but he died of his gunshot wound.

Shortly after 10 a.m., Grundy County sheriff's deputies had been chasing the man in a high-speed pursuit after learning he was wanted in connection with the shooting of the man's wife in Aurora.
The Aurora woman remains hospitalized in critical condition, according to Jungles.

He said that nobody in law enforcement fired their weapons during Monday's encounter.
The shooting suspect exited his vehicle and within a matter of seconds, he pointed his gun at his chest and shot himself at Cottage Road in the Wilmington area, according to Jungles.
Jungles said it his understanding that Aurora police will issue a press release relaying details of their attempted murder incident. "I don't know the particulars of that," Jungles explained.
