Gunshot Triggers Police Chase, Ends in Two Arrests

The men were booked on a number of charges after they drove into a tree, and one tried to flee the scene, Joliet police say.

Two men were arrested after they fired shots into the air early Saturday morning and then refused to stop when tried to pull them over.

The chase ended when one of the men drove into a tree at Second and Mississippi avenues and the other was nabbed as he tried to escape on foot, according to a story in the Joliet Herald-News.

The driver, Katriel J. Walters, 27, of 509 Plainfield, was charged with aggravated driving under the influence, unlawful use of a weapon: possession of a firearm in public, fleeing or attempting to elude police, and driving on a revoked/suspended license, according to records.

His passenger, Xavier J. Travis, 18, of 404 Herkimar, was charged with armed violence, unlawful use/possession of a weapon by a felon, defacing firearm ID markings, reckless discharge of a firearm and resisting/obstructing a peace officer.

Both are being in the ; Walters in lieu of $25,000 bond and Travis in lieu of $100,000 bond.

A 19-year-old woman was also in the car and suffered non-life-threatening injuries, as did Walters, the Herald-News story said.
