Gunshots Fired During Late Night Party, 1 Man Arrested: Police

The 51-year-old Ramiro Zavala was arrested by Joliet police on charges of reckless discharge of a firearm.

JOLIET, IL — A 51-year-old Joliet man who lives on Mills Road is now in the Will County Jail facing felony charges of reckless discharge of a gun. Sunday's incident that led to the Joliet police arrest of Ramiro Zavala happened during the early morning hours.

Around 8:30 a.m., police were called to the 1800 block of Mills Road for a delayed report of shots fired. Officers learned that a resident overheard multiple gunshots being fired during the overnight hours and later discovered that their steel-sided barn had been struck by gunfire, according to police spokesman Dwayne English.

The police learned that Zavala, who also lives in the 1800 block of Mills Road, had hosted a party during the same overnight hours. Officers went to Zavala's address and found several spent 9 mm shell casings near the area where the party was held, police reports indicate.

"Officers spoke to Zavala, who admitted to firing a 9 mm handgun into the air during the party." English said,

Officers took Zavala away in handcuffs and recovered a 9 mm handgun, English said.
