Gunshots Near Nightmare On Hickory House

Several Joliet Police officers were on the scene late Tuesday night.

JOLIET, IL - On Tuesday night around 11 p.m., someone opened fire at the Joliet neighborhood near the site of the 2013 grisly double murders that became known as the Nightmare on Hickory Street slayings. Earlier this year, in February, Patch reported how one of those criminals, Alisa Massaro, was being discharged from the Illinois Department of Corrections because she had served her time. Some neighbors thought they saw Massaro entering the house on a couple of occasions around that time frame, but that was never confirmed, and it may have been somebody else.

At any rate, the gun violence has been heating up in recent weeks near the Nightmare house. Robert Hernandez, a city of Joliet community activist, visited the neighborhood on Wednesday morning and spoke with some of the neighbors. They told him nobody was struck by the multiple rounds of gunshots fired Tuesday night, but Joliet Police Department officers responded quickly and had the entire block cordoned off late into the night as police officers investigated the shooting.

The neighbors say this is at least the third incident over the past few months involving gunfire in close proximity to the Nightmare property.
