JOLIET — For the fourth time, 53-year-old Joliet man Pedro Barrios finds himself facing criminal charges involving allegations of drunken driving. In recent days, Joliet police took Barrios into custody on an arrest warrant related to two charges of aggravated DUI, aggravated driving while license revoked and obstructing identification.

The felony DUI charge filed by the Will County State's Attorney's Office indicated this marks the fourth DUI offense for Barrios.

According to Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English, at 8:19 p.m. January 10, officers responded to the intersection of Laraway Road and Manhattan Road for a crash.

A Chevrolet 3500 truck struck another vehicle in the intersection before fleeing westbound on Laraway Road without providing aid or information, police said. No injuries were reported in the crash.

Officers later found the truck near Manhattan Road and Briggs Street and conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. The driver was later determined to be Barrios, but at the time of the stop, he provided the identity of a different person, English said.

Police pointed out that Barrios displayed behaviors consistent with possible alcohol impairment based upon their observations. Barrios performed field sobriety tests and was taken into custody without incident, English said. The truck was towed from the scene.

Following further investigation, police were able to identify Barrios, and an arrest warrant was obtained on April 3. Barrios was processed at the Joliet Police Department after turning himself in on April 11, and he was given his notice to appear in court.
