Crest Hill Homicide Victim Identified As Joliet Gang Member

A 30-year-old man was found dead Monday morning, according to Crest Hill's chief of police.

CREST HILL, IL — Crest Hill police are working with the Will-Grundy County Major Crimes Task Force in hopes of solving the first homicide of 2020. Around 6 a.m. Monday, officers responded to a call of several gunshots in the 1700 block of Arbor Lane. Police later found a man, later identified as Alan Edison, 30, inside a car outside the Woodlands apartments, Police Chief Ed Clark told Patch.

Edison previously lived in Joliet. Will County court records indicate Edison has had several brushes with the law in the Joliet area since he was a teenager. Late last April, Crest Hill Police officers arrested him on two charges of domestic battery against his girlfriend who lived at the same apartment complex where he was slain on Monday.

Edison was accused of striking the woman in the face and of having grabbed her about the body.

Following his April 2019 arrest by Crest Hill police, a Will County judge ordered Edison to stay from the Crest Hill woman and stay away from the Woodlands apartments.

Edison was scheduled to have his next court appearance on his two Will County domestic violence charges in just two weeks, court records show.

In May 2011, Edison was charged with multiple counts of unlawful possession of a gun by a Joliet street gang member as well as aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. That year, Edison pleaded guilty and drew a 42-month prison sentence at the Illinois Department of Corrections, court files reflect.

In 2007, as a teenager, Edison was convicted of multiple counts of car burglaries, according to court records.

For several hours Monday, Crest Hill police investigators worked with crime scene technicians to process the area for clues and cultivate leads in connection with Edison's killing.

No arrests had been made as of Tuesday afternoon.

Clark urged anybody who has information about the crime to call the Crest Hill Police Department at 815-741-5115 and speak with Investigator Joel Steen.

People who prefer to remain anonymous can call Will County Crime Stoppers at 800-323-6734. Crime Stoppers pays up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest.
