IDOT Wants Input On I-55, Route 59 Safety Improvements

The public session is 4 to 7 p.m. at Joliet Junior College's Building U Auditorium, 1215 Houbolt Road.

JOLIET, IL - Motorists who regularly drive the highways of Will County probably know that one of the most treacherous spots is near Interstate 55 and the Route 59 interchanges. On Thursday, the Illinois Department of Transportation is partnering with the City of Joliet to host a public forum from 4 to 7 p.m. at Joliet Junior College. The event will talk about possible improvements near Interstate 55 from I-80 to U.S. 52 in Joliet and Shorewood.

The meeting is inside the Building "U" Auditorium, 1215 Houbolt Road. Safety, congestion, roadway access and operational deficiencies are four of the main topics slated for discussion.

"The study limits on Interstate 55 are bounded by Interstate 80 to the south, U.S. 52 to the north, Houbolt Road to the east and River Road to the west, spanning Joliet and Shorewood," IDOT stated in a news release issued Monday.
