ILMEA All State Orchestra and Chorus Qualifiers

Three Joliet Township High School Choral and Orchestra students were selected to perform at the 2015-2016 ILMEA All State Music Conference.

A professional organization, ILMEA has the mission to promote lifelong music learning and provide leadership for music education. Students audition to perform in an ILMEA ensemble (band, chorus, orchestra, jazz band or vocal jazz ensemble) within one of nine geographic districts. Based on that audition, Senior Level (high school) students may be invited to participate in the annual Illinois All-State Music Conference.

Joliet Central High School student Hunter Thoms was selected for the ILMEA All State Orchestra; and Tyrique McNeal was selected for the ILMEA All State Chorus. Joliet West High School student Trevor Culbreth was selected for the ILMEA Allstate Chorus.

Hunter Thoms is a sophomore actively involved with Philharmonia. Thoms made the District Festival last year as well, but was not eligible to go to All State as a freshmen. Tyrique McNeal is a junior enrolled in Concert Choir, Mixed Chorus, Steel Tones and Honors Madrigal. He is the first junior from Joliet Township to be selected for the ILMEA All State Chorus in over 30 years.

Trevor Culbreth is a senior member of Concert Choir, jTunes, AP Music Theory, Music Appreciation and the Music Honor Society. He has been a lead on Opera Scenes for three years and the musical since his freshmen year.

“We could not be more thrilled for our students and all of their ongoing success,” said Cheryl McCarthy, Superintendent of Joliet Township High School. “I would also like to note that our devoted faculty members have made these accomplishments possible for our students.”

The JTHS Orchestra is directed by Mr. Peter Lipari and the Central Choir is directed by Mr. David L. Jones. The West Choir is directed by Mr. Tim DeBoer.
