Johnnie Knippenberg Shot Joliet Man In Groin, Wrist, Police Say

The shooting occurred Friday night in the 1300 block of Joliet's John Street, police said.

JOLIET, IL - Johnnie Knippenberg is being held in the Will County Adult Detention Facility on a $750,000 bond in connection with a non-fatal shooting last weekend inside a house on John Street. A 28-year-old man was shot twice, once in his right wrist and once in his right groin area, deputy chief of police Al Roechner said. The victim told police that his shooter sped away in a black sports utility vehicle and he identified Knippenberg as the shooter. The shooting victim was rushed by a Joliet Fire Department ambulance to Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center around 9 p.m. Friday night.

Joliet police later located Knippenberg at his house in the 1300 block of West Marion Street. Knippenberg gave an interview statement to Joliet police detectives and was taken into custody. Records at the Will County reflect that Knippenberg was booked into custody early Saturday afternoon. So far, he has been charged with two serious felonies, aggravated battery involving a firearm and aggravated battery causing great bodily harm.

Roechner said that Joliet police detectives got a search warrant for Knippenberg's vehicle and a shell casing was recovered, Roechner said. As for the shooting victim, "he's still in critical condition," Roechner told Patch on Monday afternoon.
