Joliet Central Ends 57 Game Losing Streak with Last Minute Touchdown

Quarterback Zach Wisenski threw a 30-yard touchdown, giving Joliet Central a three point lead and clinching the game.

JOLIET, IL — ”Winning isn’t everything. It’s the only thing.”

Perhaps that quote from former Green Bay Packers coach Vince Lombardi began to lose its meaning for the Steelmen at Joliet Central. For the past 57 games, they suffered loss after loss after loss. A few times they came close, but victory remained elusive. The team played on, however. Determined, if not to win, then to get better.

But Saturday night’s win over Plainfield Central did mean everything. According to a report from the Chicago Sun-Times, the winning goal was made with just 29 seconds left in the game. Quarterback Zach Wisenski threw a 30-yard touchdown, giving Joliet Central a three point lead.

“I don’t even know what this means,” Wisneski told the Sun-Times. “Everything.”

Wide receiver Jojo McNair caught the winning pass, which will be remembered long after the season ends.

“I had doubt that we were going to come back and win this game,” McNair told the Sun-Times. “My teammates kept me up. Marcus Stone kept telling me to keep playing and that I would win this game for us.”

With more games ahead of them, Saturday’s win might be a one-night reprieve, but for now, it’s everything.
