Joliet Central honors 2019-2020 Mr. and Ms. J seniors

Joliet Central High School honored all twenty finalists as Mr. and Ms. J for the 2019-2020 school year

Joliet Central High School honored all twenty finalists as Mr. and Ms. J for the 2019-2020 school year

Typically, the annual Mr. and Ms. J contest is an honored and long-standing JTHS tradition
that recognizes the best all-around Joliet Central senior boy and girl. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the final process of selecting just one Mr. J and Miss J was cancelled. Instead, all twenty Joliet Central High School Mr. and Miss J finalists were chosen to be honored for the 2019-2020 school year.

In order to become a finalist, students must have maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.5 throughout their high school career. Those students become candidates on a list that is then rated by JTHS staff to determine the 10 finalists for each category. Canceled due to the pandemic, the final portion of the process typically required each finalist to be interviewed by a panel of judges
consisting of JTHS staff and other key members of our community.

Mr. and Ms. J Sponsor Dina Zmuda said, “After surveying this year’s finalists on how important it was to each of them that we name ONE winner, there were overwhelming results that it was okay with them that ALL finalists be honored. My work with this year’s group of talented future leaders has demonstrated their camaraderie, value of community, humbleness, and willingness to celebrate, not only themselves, but one another.”

Each student will receive a certificate stating their achievement as a Mr./Ms. J finalist, a Mr. J/Ms. J 2020 button, and a $50 Amazon gift card. They’ll each be featured in the final issue of the JTC
Journal as well.
