Joliet Cops Charge Jason Montoya, 2 Minors, With Mob Action
A group of teenagers are accused of firing bullets near Joliet's Hartman Center on Collins Street.

JOLIET, IL - Bullets were being sprayed Thursday in the 500 block of Collins Street near the Hartman Recreation Center but Joliet police have arrested three teenagers after the incident. Jason Montoya, 18, who lives in the 500 block of Virginia Street, is the only one charged as an adult. He's being locked up at the Will County Adult Detention Facility on a felony crime of mob action. Two juveniles, 15 and 16 respectively, are being detained on mob action charges at the River Valley Juvenile Detention Center. The 16-year-old also faces a charge of aggravated discharge of a firearm. The 15-year-old is accused of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, according to Joliet police.
According to police, witnesses heard three gunshots fired in the nearby park and several juveniles fleeing the area. Patrol officers determined that some of the youths ran into a house in the 500 block of Herkimer Street and police also found several shell casings in the area. Officers got permission to go inside the house. Montoya and two juveniles were taken into custody and a semi automatic handgun was found underneath a couch, Joliet police said.
Several hours later, a woman told Joliet police that her blue Monte Carlo car was apparently struck by bullets over near the Heartland Recreation Center. The woman had let some of her relatives borrow the car at the time it was hit by bullets, according to police.

Joliet police say they are not aware of anybody being shot in connection with Thursday's arrests of Montoya and the pair of juveniles.
