Joliet Coronavirus: 578 Cases Since Late March
The overwhelming majority of Joliet's coronavirus deaths have been associated with nursing care facilities across the city.

JOLIET, IL — Joliet now reports 578 residents have tested positive for the new coronavirus and at least 49 have died from the illness. Joliet's first confirmed coronavirus case happened March 21, according to city data.
Joliet Fire Department ambulances have transported at least 82 coronavirus patients since late March.
Of the city's 49 coronavirus deaths, at least 40 were associated with long-term care facilities. More than half of the deaths took place at just one nursing home on North Larkin Avenue. Symphony of Joliet has reported 26 deaths and 93 positive cases, according to the Joliet Fire Department.

As of Tuesday, there were only four Symphony of Joliet residents recovering from the coronavirus at the care center. April 12 marked the last time the Joliet Fire Department said it transported a Symphony of Joliet resident who had coronavirus symptoms.

Presence Villa Franciscan on Springfield Avenue has also had eight deaths and 41 coronavirus cases, the city reported. The city of Joliet's last ambulance call to Villa Franciscan was April 20.
PARC of Joliet at 222. N. Hammes Ave. has had the third highest number of nursing care deaths from the coronavirus in Joliet. PARC has reported four deaths and 28 cases.
The most recent Joliet nursing care center to have a sharp increase in coronavirus cases has been Sunny Hill, 421 Doris Ave. Sunny Hill now reports two deaths and 17 coronavirus cases. On April 19, Sunny Hill reported just two cases and no resident deaths.
Joliet Terrace, 2230 McDonough St., is the newest nursing care facility to report a coronavirus case within Joliet.
In recent days, Joliet Terrace has reported its first two known cases, the city said.
As of Sunday, April 26, AMITA Health Saint Joseph Medical Center had 43 coronavirus patients still hospitalized and five more patients being evaluated for coronavirus symptoms. Since the health crisis began in March, St. Joe's has discharged 79 coronavirus patients, city data showed.
