Joliet Gang Member Captured With Loaded Gun: Police

JOLIET, IL — On July 19, 25-year-old Joliet resident Jason Yantz grabbed one of the private security guards at the AMITA Health Saint Joseph Medical Center and he pushed the security guard into a wall, a criminal complaint states. Joliet Police got a warrant for Yantz's arrest on three charges of aggravated battery. Yantz remained a fugitive until Sunday when Joliet Police arrested him near the Calderon's Liquor Store on Collins Street where police say he had a gun.
Around 12:35 a.m. on Sunday, August 4, Joliet Police saw Yantz in a car that pulled into the east-side liquor store in the 700 block of Collins Street. The car was stopped and officers confirmed that Yantz had the outstanding warrant in connection with the incident at St. Joe's hospital.
"Officers recovered a loaded firearm in his waistband," police announced. "Officers recovered the firearm and Yantz was placed into custody without incident."

According to police, Yantz was charged over the weekend with several new crimes: aggravated unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, unlawful possession of ammunition, unlawful possession of ammunition by a felon, no FOID and unlawful possession of a weapon by a street gang member.
This marks Yantz's fourth incarceration inside the Will County Jail since 2016, jail records show.
