Joliet Man Facing Theft Charge Says Judge 'Filled With Loathing Hatred & Spite,' Wants New Judge On Case
The alleged thief already got one judge taken off his case and is representing himself after ditching his public defender.
A Joliet man jailed for allegedly stealing steaks penned a scathing affidavit about the judge presiding over his case and asked for her to be replaced.
John Norris, 49, already successfully worked to get Will County Judge Edward Burmila replaced and ditched his public defender, whom he accused of committing "gross errors" and failing to "advocate anything for" him.
Now Norris wants his second judge, Sarah Jones, off the case as well.
"Judge Jones continuously gives (Norris) her death stare," he wrote in an affidavit that says the judge is "Filled with loathing hatred and spite."
"If looks could kill, Judge Jones would be charged with the brutal heinous murder of (Norris)," he said.
Norris claims Jones has "punished" him for choosing to represent himself.
Judge Jones signed an affidavit of her own in which she says she has given Norris "ample time to argue" his "numerous pretrial motions." She also said Norris "took umbrage" when he was told he "would be given no 'breaks' or special consideration" because he chose to go without a lawyer.
Norris, however, believes the judge holds a grudge.
"When she happen(ed) across (his) file Judge Jones spoke (his) name 'Mr. Norris' in a venomous way. Then looked at (him) in a way that leaves no doubt that Judge Jones hates (him)," Norris said in his affidavit. "Transcripts will not reflect her venomous voice inflection nor her looking with pure hatred at (him)."
Norris' bid to get yet another new judge assigned to his case was denied.
