Joliet Man Killed in Head-on Crash

A Joliet man was killed in a head-on collision near Manhattan.

A man was killed Sunday night when he ran his pickup truck head on into another pickup on Route 52 near Manhattan, police said.

The unidentified man was pronounced dead at the scene of the 10:40 p.m. crash on Route 52 south of Delaney Road, according to a statement released by the Will County Coroner's Office.

Officials were withholding the man's name until he could be identified at the Will County morgue by relatives. His wife reportedly was en route Monday from Mexico to Joliet to make the identification.

The statement released by Will County Coroner Patrick O'Neil's office said the man's identity would be ascertained through fingerprint comparison.

The driver of the other pickup truck was injured in the crash, police said. He was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.

The state police were unable to provide the injured man's identity.

No criminal charges had been filed in connection with the crash as of Monday night, police said.
