Joliet Man Ripped Off Team Auto Repair: Complaint
Nearly three weeks after criminal charges were filed, Joliet police captured defendant Toby Godfrey on Sunday, Sept. 20.

JOLIET, IL — A 43-year-old Joliet man who had a felony warrant out for his arrest on charges of theft by deception was arrested Sunday by Joliet police on unrelated domestic battery charges. A Will County bench warrant was issued Sept. 1 for the arrest of Toby Godfrey, who lives in the 100 block of Park Drive.
According to court records, the Joliet Police Department investigation determined that Godfrey used deception to obtain a car engine for a red Ford Focus from the Team Auto Repair shop, 367 North Chicago St.
Godfrey "provided his own name as Josh Smith and tendered a check for full payment to Team Auto Repair in the amount of $2,091 from a check account in the name of (a woman) claiming to a representative of Team Auto Repair that (the woman) was his mother when in fact (the woman) was not the mother of the defendant," the criminal complaint states.
