Joliet Man Runs From Stolen Jeep, Leaves Gun Behind: Police
When Joliet police approached Deshawn Bew, authorities say he ran from the officers heading westbound on Theodore Street.

JOLIET, IL — Joliet police say 29-year-old city resident Deshawn Bew violated his parole by stealing a Jeep Cherokee and bringing the Naperville vehicle to Joliet's west side, where he left his loaded handgun on the passenger seat.
Wednesday's arrest happened at night near North Broadway and Theodore Streets.
Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English said that Bew, who comes from the 1100 block of Parkwood Drive apartment units, is now being detained on charges of:

- Armed Habitual Criminal
- Armed Violence
- Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by Felon
- Possession of a Controlled Substance
- Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle
- Obstructing a Peace Officer
- The Illinois Department of Corrections Arrest Warrant.

According to English, the following events led to Wednesday's arrest of Bew, who has been in the Will County Jail on four separate occasions since Dec. 30, 2020:
- At 9:50 p.m., patrol officers spotted a Jeep Cherokee previously stolen in Naperville, in the parking lot of the Mobil gas station located at 1529 North Broadway Street.
- The Jeep was parked near the air pump station as Bew stood next to it.
- When Joliet police approached Bew, he ran off, heading westbound on Theodore Street.
- Officers caught up to Bew and placed him into custody without incident.
- Inside the stolen Jeep, officers recovered a loaded handgun on the passenger seat in plain view from outside the Jeep.
- Officers also recovered suspected cocaine.
- Following the arrest, the Illinois Department of Corrections issued a parole violation arrest warrant for Bew.
