Joliet Man Shot In Chest, Leg, Drives Himself To St. Joe's Hospital

A house in the 100 block of Key Court was also struck by the gunfire, Joliet's Police Department discovered.

JOLIET, IL — A 27-year-old Joliet man who took a bullet to his chest and to one of his legs still managed to drive himself to the nearby St. Joe's Hospital Emergency Room for treatment. Tuesday's early morning gunman harmed his victim while most of the city was fast asleep.

According to Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English, the gunman emerged and fired several off several bullets right around 2 a.m.

Officers responded to the 100 block of Key Court for the shots fired. While Joliet police were arriving, a Chevrolet Impala was seen leaving the area at a high rate of speed.

Officers followed the vehicle to Ascension St Joseph Medical Center and saw the driver exit the vehicle and go into the hospital. Officers made contact with the 27-year-driver in the hospital and learned he had been shot in the chest and right leg.

"It is believed that the victim was shot while in or near a vehicle in the 100 block of Key Court. The victim was treated at the hospital in stable condition," English relayed.

Following a neighborhood canvass, a house in the 100 block of Key Court was also struck by the gunfire. No other injuries were reported from the shooting.
