Hobbs Ave. Murder Victim Was Marcello Dilworth

JOLIET, IL — Joliet Police's homicide detectives are investigating the weekend killing of 19-year-old Marcello Dilworth in the 100 block of Hobbs Avenue, on the city's east side. Dilworth was shot on the porch numerous times, Joliet Police announced on their Facebook page. The homicide happened around 12:55 a.m. Saturday, and the killer got away before police cars arrived.

"Joliet Fire Department arrived on scene but unfortunately the victim had succumbed to his injuries," police said. "This is an ongoing investigation and is still in its early stages. The Joliet Police is actively looking into what occurred and will update the public at a later date when it has more information.

According to Will County Jail records, Dilworth was incarcerated on three separate occasions in 2018 and he had spent most of 2019 inside the Will County Jail until being released from custody about two weeks ago. He lived in the 100 block of Mississippi Avenue.

This year, Dilworth was in custody from Feb. 20 until July 12 after the Will County Sheriff's Office arrested him on a total of 10 criminal charges including possession of marijuana, resisting the arrest, having a gun without a valid FOID, driving on a suspended license and two counts of possession of controlled substances.

"The Joliet Police Department is currently looking for assistance from the public. If any residence or business has surveillance videos of any suspicious activity between the hours of 12:30 a.m. and 1 a.m. on July 27, they are encouraged to contact the Investigation Unit at 815-724-3020. The area of focus is from the area east of Miller Avenue to Akin Avenue and between E. Washington Street and Second Avenue."

Last weekend, two people, a man and a woman, were shot on the city's near west side near Center Street, but their injuries were not fatal. Also last Saturday morning, the dead body of Floyd Faint, 29, was found on the I&M Canal Trail in Rockdale. The Joliet man was shot multiple times around 6 a.m., according to one person's account in a newspaper article.
