Joliet Plaza Inn & Suites Is For Sale

JOLIET, IL — Nearly two years after the Joliet City Council considered taking a vote to declare the Joliet Plaza Inn & Suites a public nuisance, the current property owner has put his land for sale. A large sign in front of 4200 West Jefferson Street advises motorists that the land consists of more than 7 acres. The property is zoned commercial.

People who are interested in acquiring the west-side Joliet parcel near the Interstate 55 exit for Joliet are asked to call property owner Pankaj Modi at 773-968-3203.

On Monday morning, Modi told Joliet Patch that he does not have a specific price he is seeking for the Joliet Plaza & Suites. The deal is negotiable, he said.

Modi also told Patch that prospective investors may want to acquire the property for a redevelopment, perhaps for a retail center, medical building or storage unit facility.

Back in 2014, the 40-unit hotel sustained heavy damage from a severe storm, and city of Joliet officials remained upset with the owners of the Joliet Plaza Inn & Suites for being incredibly slow at bringing their storm-damaged property back up to city building code.

Meanwhile, it's not uncommon for Joliet police officers to respond to the Plaza Inn & Suites to make an arrest.

In February, Patch reported that a 49-year-old Joliet man who was living at the Joliet Plaza Inn & Suites was taken to the Will County Jail after Joliet police say he attacked a woman inside Joe's Bar on the hotel property at 4200 West Jefferson St. around 2 a.m.

In August, a 36-year-old Wilmington woman was arrested at the Joliet Plaza Inn & Suites on several criminal charges including aggravated assault, criminal trespass, resisting a peace officer and obstructing justice. Joliet police went to the hotel for a disturbance call around 7:50 p.m.
