JOLIET, IL - A 32-year-old Crest Hill man has remained in the Will County Jail for more than a week after Joliet Police charged John Minnick with committing aggravated battery against one of the city's police officers. The defendant is accused of attacking an officer and pulling on the police officer's bullet-proof vest at the Motel 6 on McDonough Street, back on March 30.
Police say they were called to the Motel 6 around 3 a.m. for a disturbance and that's when the police officers found Minnick near one of the motel rooms.
"Minnick became upset with officers after telling Minnick why they were called to the scene," police reports show. "Minnick (started) cussing at officers and refused to listen to their commands."

According to the police, the situation became combative because Minnick "grabbed onto the officer's vest where they both went to the ground. After a brief struggle, Minnick was placed into custody."
Will County Jail logs had Minnick listed as a Melrose Park resident. His bail was set at $75,000 and he's remained in custody since around 5 a.m. on March 30. He's unable to post 10 percent of his bail, jail logs indicate.
