Joliet Police Shoot Man After Center Street Home Invasion: Cops

While Joliet police were on their way, they said the armed suspect forced himself into the house by breaking a window to the back door.

JOLIET, IL — The Joliet Police Department issued a press release announcing that an officer shot someone who was holding a gun around 8:40 a.m. on Wednesday. The man is now recovering, and he's in stable condition at Joliet's hospital, the agency noted.

According to Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English, the shooting happened in the 1100 block of North Center Street. Officers responded after multiple 911 calls notified them about a man outside a house holding a handgun, at times pointing the gun at the house.

While the officers were on their way, police said the suspect forced himself into the house by breaking a window to the back door.

Officers encountered the suspect in the back of the house, and he ignored numerous commands to drop the handgun, according to police. The suspect then began walking toward the officer, prompting the officer to shoot their gun twice, striking the suspect one time.

More officers arrived and rendered medical aid to the suspect. The criminal suspect's gun was recovered.

The Will Grundy Major Crimes Task Force was immediately notified and is currently investigating this shooting.

"This is an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public. The suspect is currently in custody and charges are pending. Any further updates regarding this Officer involved shooting will come from the Will Grundy Major Crimes Task Force," English said.
