2 Men Shot In Car On Joliet's East Side

JOLIET, IL - Joliet Police said that two men, ages 20 and 30, suffered non-life threatening gunshot wounds on Friday evening when someone opened fire on their car. The shootings occurred at 4th Avenue and Union Street around 5 p.m. while it was still light out.

According to deputy chief of police Darrell Gavin, officers responded to the call of a shooting but no victims were located. Turns out, the two shooting victims turned up several minutes later at St. Joe's hospital "with non-life threatening gunshot wounds."

According to Gavin, "neither victim could identify the shooter. Both victims were treated and released. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing."

Gavin also explained that the gunman was inside another vehicle.

"Everyone was in vehicles including the victims," he noted.

On Friday evening, there was a large presence of Joliet Police cars converged upon the city's east side, near Washington Junior High School. The large police presence began around 5:30 p.m. in the area of 4th Avenue and Richards Street. Joliet Patch has reached out to Deputy Chief of Police Darrell Gavin and the story will updated accordingly.

The incident was unfolding less than 24 hours after Joliet Police were extra busy on Thursday evening investigating a deadly shooting. A 13-year-old boy died of multiple gunshots and two other juvenile boys were also shot, but there wounds were not life-threatening. That shooting occurred on the city's west side, in the 300 block of South May Street, in an alley.
