Joliet House Shot Up: Stolen Car, Suspects Found In Chicago
The Kia Optima was left in the driveway of the residence running and unattended due to the cold weather, Joliet police noted.

JOLIET, IL — A resident on the far west side of the city left the keys in the car while warming up the engine, and the car was promptly stolen and used in a nearby drive-by house shooting, Joliet police said.
The violent crime happened around 9 a.m. Thursday.
According to Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English, the following events led to the shooting:

At 8:58 a.m., Joliet police went to the 8100 block of Aaron Lane for a house sprayed with multiple bullets. The house was occupied, but no one was injured.
"While officers were beginning their investigation into the shooting, they were notified of a stolen Kia Optima from the 8100 block of Shady Oaks Lane," English revealed.

As you can see from the map posted at the bottom of the story, Shady Oaks Lane is in proximity to Aaron Lane.
- The owner of a Kia Optima left the engine running and unattended due to the cold weather. The Kia was then used as the getaway vehicle in the shots fired crime in the 8100 block of Aaron Lane.
- The criminals then sped away from Joliet in the stolen vehicle, police said. License Plate Reader cameras detected the vehicle travelling to the south side of Chicago.
- A short time later, the Chicago Police Department found the Kia Optima that was stolen on Joliet on Thursday morning.
- Chicago Police Department is conducting their own investigation into the recovery of the stolen Kia, and multiple suspects are in custody.
"At the time of this release, Joliet Police Detectives are traveling to meet with Chicago Police Department personnel," English announced at 5 p.m. "This continues to be an active and fluid investigation as Joliet Police Detectives and members of the Tri County Auto Theft Task Force investigate this case."
