Joliet Shooting On Hickory Street: Joliet Police Capture Prime Suspect With Fugitive Task Force's Help

JOLIET, IL — When it comes to gun violence around the city of Joliet, most of the offenders wind up getting captured and charged, sooner or later. On Friday, Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English issued a press release revealing how 19-year-old Malachi Sullivan has been put into the Will County Jail in connection with a shooting on the city's near west side.

The shooting happened five weeks ago.

On June 5, at 11:34 p.m., officers responded to the 700
block of North Hickory Street following reports of shots fired. English noted that an occupied residence in the area had been struck by gunfire.

"The preliminary investigation indicated that residents in the area had overheard a disturbance involving several unidentified individuals in the street shortly before the shots were fired," English announced.

No injuries were reported. Still, the fficers canvassed the area and recovered multiple spent shell casings.

During the investigation, detectives identified Malachi Sullivan, 19, of Joliet as the suspect who had discharged a firearm during this incident, English announced.

On June 15, detectives obtained an arrest
warrant charging Sullivan with two counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm and one count of aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon.

On July 8, 2026, Sullivan was taken into custody in the 1300 block of Demmond Street by members of the U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force. He was transported to the Joliet Police Department for processing before being transferred to the Will County Adult Detention Facility.
