Joliet Stripper Sues Downstate Club, Says She Wasn't Paid Minimum Wage
The stripper said the club also took fines and fees out of her tips.

A Joliet stripper is taking a Downstate “fully nude” club to federal court, claiming she wasn’t paid the minimum wage.
Aleigha Woods, 22, also said the “fully nude, adult entertainment” Club Cabaret in Creve Cour docked her tips, taking money out for fines and fees. The “house fees” are set at the club’s discretion, according to the lawsuit, and are as high as $65 a night. The “substantial fines” are collected for violations such as arriving late, not complying with the schedule, getting to the stage late, neglecting to smile, chewing gum onstage, and failing to maintain hair and nails to Club Cabaret’s standard, the suit said. A customer complaint can also allegedly result in a fine.
Club Cabaret actually pays its strippers no wages at all, the lawsuit said, and treats them as independent contractors. This is improper, according to the lawsuit, as Club Cabaret, hires and fires strippers, sets house rules, prohibits them from working at other clubs, sets their hours, holds meetings with them, requires them to sign in, sets their music rotations, decides when they can leave, reviews their hair and makeup, sets the rates for “floor and VIP room usgae,” and requires them to “sell promotional items.”
