Joliet Sued By Woman Who Tripped Over Stump

The July 2017 incident occurred in front of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.

JOLIET, IL - A Joliet woman, Maria Sandoval, has retained a downtown Chicago personal injury law firm to sue the city of Joliet in connection with an incident that allegedly happened a year ago, on July 6, 2017. Her lawsuit states that Joliet owned and managed a city parkway in front of 404 North Hickory Street. Although the lawsuit does not say it, that address is St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.

"On July 6, plaintiff Maria Sandoval was on the premises as a pedestrian walking across the parkway at or in front of the address ... Maria Sandoval was caused to slip and fall due to a cut tree stump located in the aforementioned parkway," her lawyer Kevin McNamara informed Will County's judicial system.

Their lawsuit blames the city for her apparent tumble. Tthe city "allowed the subject tree stump to become and remain in a defective condition" and it had "failed to barricade the defective condition of the parkway and tree stump," the lawsuit states.
