Joliet Teen Fatally Shot On McDonough Street

A 13-year-old boy was also grazed by Monday night's gunfire in the 1800 block of McDonough Street, Joliet police said.

JOLIET, IL — Two Joliet teenagers were shot on Monday night, one fatally, in the 1800 block of McDonough Street. Police spokesman Dwayne English said the violence happened around 11:20 p.m.

At the scene, officers saw two boys, ages 16 and 13, struck by gunfire as they walked in the area.

"It was initially determined that the 16-year-old juvenile had sustained a possibly life-threatening gunshot wound and the 13-year-old had been grazed by the gunfire," English said.

He said the officers immediately rendered medical aid to both shooting victims until the Joliet Fire Department arrived at the scene. Both gunshot victims were transported by ambulance to Ascension St Joseph Medical Center, where the 16-year-old boy died.

No arrests have been made.

Detectives and officers secured the crime scene and conducted an extensive canvas of the area during this investigation.

As for Will County Coroner Laurie Summers, she announced on Facebook that she is opting to withhold releasing the homicide victim's name because he was a juvenile.
