Joliet Unity Movement To Host 815 Youth Day Later This Month

The event takes place at 1 p.m. on August 15 at Nowell Park and features a 3-on-3 basketball tournament, talent show and other activities.

JOLIET, IL — Joliet Unity Movement announced that on Sunday, August 15, it will host its annual 815 Youth Day, which is designed to celebrate youth and showcase the many talents of local youngsters, according to the organization.

The event will take place at 1 p.m. at Nowell Park's Gardner Street Pavilion, 199 Mills Rd., and will feature a 3-on-3 basketball tournament, talent show, The Lil' Big Wheel Race, double-dutch contest, an activity station, music and giveaways.

According to its literature, Joliet Unity Movement is entering its 8th year as an outreach organization dedicated to building and inspiring youth and empowering the community. The organization has spent the previous seven years "volunteering, mentoring and growing with our youth and families," according to a release, and it is working to stop violence in local communities.

During the last year, Joliet Youth Movement has been forced to do much of its mentoring remote due to COVID-19. The organization said it has delivered personal hygiene products, operated a food pantry and provided personal protective care packages to families during the pandemic.
