Joliet Walmart Customer Stole Hundreds In Merchandise: Police

A 48-year-old woman from Naperville was arrested Monday afternoon on felony charges at Joliet' Walmart store at 2424 West Jefferson Street.

JOLIET, IL — Joliet police officers arrested a 48-year-old woman from Naperville at the Walmart store on West Jefferson Street after Machelle Harris stole more than $500 worth of merchandise, according to police.

Joliet police cars were sent to the Walmart around 3:20 p.m. on Monday for a retail theft.

"Officers determined that Harris was observed by Walmart staff in the self-checkout lane at which time Harris was not scanning every item of merchandise that she was placing in her bag," police reports reflect. "Walmart staff approached Harris after she had passed all points of sale, and she was detained for JPD."

According to Joliet police, Harris "had under rang over $500 of merchandise.

Harris was put in handcuffs and brought to the Will County Jail where she was booked into custody on felony charges of retail theft at 6:05 p.m., police reports show.
