Joliet Walmart Worker Now Locked Up In Will County Jail

Jermaine Peete is accused of stealing money from his cash register.

JOLIET, IL - If you are a regular shopper at the Joliet Walmart in the 2400 block of West Jefferson Street, Jermaine Peete may have rung up your store purchases. It's now highly unlikely you will ever see Peete wearing a blue apron at the Joliet Walmart store. He's in the custody at the Will County Adult Detention Facility. Peete, 18, of 300 block of Joliet's North Prairie Avenue, is charged with felony theft.

Joliet's Deputy Chief of Police Ed Gregory said the Walmart worker was booked into the county jail on Thursday evening. According to Gregory, one of the Walmart managers contacted the Joliet Police Department after determining Peete's cash register kept coming up short of money during the past week. A criminal investigation determined that Peete stole about $700 from Walmart, Gregory said.

Peete was set to appear before a Will County judge for a bond hearing on Friday afternoon.
