Joliet's Rialto to Get New Marquee

Donation from local businessman will fund new marquee, which will be able to play video.

The Rialto Square Theatre announced a big change during Monday night’s Festival of Trees kickoff.

Thanks to a $350,000 donation from Joliet businessman Ed Czerkies, the historic theater will get a brand-new marquee.

The marquee, which will be able to play video, will pay tribute to Czerkies’ late parents, Michael and Mary Czerkies, WJOL reported.

The new marquee will be installed this spring at the 88-year-old theater, 15 E. Van Buren St. in downtown Joliet.

Czerkies’ gift will also help fund the re-painting of the iconic Rialto vertical sign and with converting from incandescent to energy-saving LED lighting on the lettering of the sign.

A dedication will take place once the work is completed, according to Rialto staff.

The Festival of Trees continues until Sunday. Special events include a Tuesday night ”Festival of the Vines” wine tasting, Salute to Our Heroes Day and Joliet Area Community Hospice tree-lighting on Wednesday, Teddy Bear Brunch on Friday and more.
