Joliet's Rich & Creamy: A Must Stop For Summer Ice Cream
Joliet Patch Editor John Ferak is rolling out a special summer feature, visiting popular Joliet area ice cream shops.

JOLIET, IL - Last Saturday, my 11-year-old son and I headed to downtown Joliet for the annual Star War Days parade. I went to cover the huge event for Joliet Patch. My son was there for the fun. He wore his new Han Solo costume and convinced me to buy him another Star Wars Lego set, for the second year in a row.
Afterward, we drove over the bridge and pulled into the parking lot for 920 N. Broadway St. That's the home of Joliet's Rich & Creamy, the iconic Route 66 ice-cream stand with the Blues Brothers dancing on the roof.
When I was growing up in the 1980s, Rich & Creamy was often a must stop for our family on our way home from St. Joe's Baseball Park during those hot summer months. This past Saturday after the Star Wars Day, I ordered my all-time favorite summer ice cream selection, their delicious turtle sundae.

My son went with his favorite, The Dirt Cup, which is a cup of vanilla ice cream, Hershey's syrup, ground Oreos and a Gummie Worm.

At Rich & Creamy, you can't beat sitting out back in the shade on one of their wooden picnic tables, enjoying a cone or a bowl of your favorite ice cream.
And that's why I decided to profile Joliet's Rich & Creamy for my latest column that will run occasionally during the summer. This column will highlight Joliet-area ice cream shops.
Do you have a favorite ice cream stand in the Joliet area or one of the nearby Will County communities that is worth the drive?
If so, consider posting your suggestions on the comment thread for my Joliet Patch article, and perhaps I'll write about your favorite ice cream stand sometime this summer.
