Joliet's Santa Fun Run & Walk Just Weeks Away: Chamber

JOLIET, IL — The Joliet Chamber of Commerce is teaming up with the Joliet City Center Partnership to bring Joliet a Santa Fun Run & Walk. The 5K event will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 4 in downtown Joliet.

The race will begin and end near the Rialto Square Theatre at the Van Buren Plaza.

Registration costs $30, and everyone will receive a Santa hat. The first place runner will receive an Apple Watch provided by TCBY in Shorewood.

Prizes will be given for the best individual and group costumes, as well as the top five race finishers.

The Joliet Chamber's events and programs manager, Sarah Palya, said she's hoping to get at least 150 participants for the 5K fun run. The racecourse will wind through Joliet's downtown, she said, and pass the Joliet Central High School campus as well as the Joliet Iron Works Historic Site.

Syl's Restaurant & Lounge in Rockdale will provide free coffee and hot chocolate to everyone.

The Auntie Anne's hot pretzel truck will be on hand, as will the Supermercado Joliet to sell cookies and churros.

Joliet Chamber officials told Patch the Dec. 4 event is aimed for fun.

There will be appearances from Santa and the Grinch, and participants are encouraged to dress up in costumes.

According to the Chamber: Race Packet Pick-Up Dates are: Thursday, Dec. 2 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Friday, Dec. 3 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Registration also begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 4 and the race kicks off at 10 a.m. at Van Buren Plaza at the intersection of Van Buren & Chicago Streets in Downtown Joliet.
