Josh Miner Sawed Tongue in Half, Wanted to Transform Into Vampire Clown 'Freak'

The Hickory Street Strangler also planned to screw fangs into his jaw and crop his ears so they looked like those of a bat.

After he was locked up in the county jail for murdering two young men in the home of a woman he occasionally had sex with, Josh Miner used a string from his pants to saw the tip of his tongue in half.

Forking his tongue to make it look like a snake’s was just part of Miner’s plan to transform his head into that of a vampire clown “freak” in honor of his 30th birthday.

“Because my birthday is June 30, (on) like my golden birthday I was going to turn into a freak,” Miner, 26, said in a video recorded by Patch at maximum security Menard Correctional Center.

Miner is serving a life sentence at Menard for the January 2013 murders of Terrance Rankins and Eric Glover, who were both 22 when they died.

This is the first of a series of videos made of Miner at Menard. Warning: Some of the videos include graphic descriptions of sexual situations and violence, and Miner occasionally uses obscenities. DO NOT WATCH THESE VIDEOS IF YOU THINK YOU WILL BE OFFENDED.

“I’ll literally take the shirt off my back to help somebody, but then I’ll just turn around and I’ll take another person’s shirt off their back. Like, I wouldn’t care.”

Miner, who lived with his mother and older sister in Joliet at the time of the murders, said his vampire clown freak makeover included fangs and bat ears.

“I wanted white gold fangs on my teeth, I wanted fangs, I wanted my tongue split, and I wanted my ears pitted, like I wanted them like shaped like a bat or whatever,” Miner explained.

“My entire life, I was always into horror movies and freaky-ass things and stuff like that, and so I wanted to be a real vampire,” he said. “I dreamt about it. I read a lot of books, like actual books, of history.”

Miner suspects his desire to be a vampire clown freak may be a reflection of his personality.

“I’m a walking oxymoron,” he said.

“I feel but I don’t feel. I see things but I don’t care about them,” Miner said. “I’ll literally take the shirt off my back to help somebody, but then I’ll just turn around and I’ll take another person’s shirt off their back. Like, I wouldn’t care.”

Miner said it’s difficult for him to explain the duality of his nature to others.

“I’m a good person,” he insisted.

“I got a good heart,” Miner said, “but I got a bad soul.”
