Judge Policandriotes Hospitalized During Banquet

Carla Alessio Policandriotes was attending Wednesday evening's Illinois Crime Commission banquet in Oak Brook.

JOLIET, IL - On Wednesday evening, Will County Judge Carla Alessio Policandriotes was taken by ambulance to an Elmhurst-area hospital after apparently passing out numerous times at her dinner table during a large banquet event in Oak Brook Terrace. The veteran Will County judge was attending the Illinois State Crime Commission banquet at The Drury Lane. A person at the event said that people at the judge's table noticed she kept passing out. Sensing she was experiencing a medical emergency, an ambulance was called and she was taken out of the banquet facility and brought to a local hospital, possibly in Elmhurst, a source told Patch.

The banquet hall had about 400 to 500 people in attendance including a large contingent of judges and lawyers from Will County and Joliet. Patch previously reported that Will County Judge Victoria McKay Kennison was being awarded The Excellence in Judiciary Award from the Illinois State Crime Commission.

Patch was told that Judge Policandriotes may have been kept at the out of town hospital overnight for observation purposes.

Last October, Policandriotes informed the Illinois Supreme Court that she would be retiring from Will County's bench effective Aug. 3. People around the courthouse told Patch earlier this week that they have not seen much of her on the bench over the past several weeks. Some lawyers suspected that she was using up her nest egg of unused vacation time.

Weeks ago, Will County Judge Dave Carlson moved from Courtroom 407 to her Courtroom 405.

Joliet Patch contacted Will County Chief Judge Richard Schoenstedt around 9 a.m. Thursday leaving a message specifically about the incident, but he has not called back as of 1 p.m. Thursday and he has not issued a statement regarding Policandriotes' condition.
