President of L. DeGeus Insurance Agency and Dedicated Joliet Community Service Leader

Klint L. DeGeus

Passed away peacefully at Lightways Hospice Home with his family by his side, Tuesday, February 11, 2025 at the age of 87.

Survived by his devoted and loving wife of 64 years Kay E. DeGeus (nee Kirn). Daughter Kathy (Tim) Barker and daughter-in-law Julee McClernon. Grandchildren Tyler (Kelsey) Barker, Grant Barker, Kate Barker and Davin DeGeus. Brother Don (Gene) DeGeus and brother-in-law Raymond (Debbie) Kirn. Also survived by his cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Preceded in death by his son David C. DeGeus (2009), parents Lester and Ethel DeGeus and in-laws Raymond and Ruth Kirn.

Born on October 8, 1937, in Joliet, Klint was a lifelong resident of the area, with a part-time residence in Ft. Myers, Florida. He was the President of L. DeGeus and Associates insurance agency, which was founded by his father, Lester. He was incredibly proud of this currently run fourth generation family business. Klint will be remembered for his dedication to community service and fundraising efforts for numerous agencies in Will County. He proudly served on the Board of Directors of the United Way, Board member of the Joliet Region Chamber of Commerce, the Joliet Park District and Trinity Foundation Boards, Board Member of Central YMCA and first president of the Galowich Y., member of the Silver Cross Hospital Ambassadors, and a charter member of the Pillar Society of United Way of Will County.

Klint received the Thanks Award from the Girl Scouts for his service and fund raising efforts to their agency. This award is the highest award given to a non -member and Klint was the first male recipient to receive it. He was honored to be the first individual awarded by Trinity Services for his dedication in helping children and adults with disabilities. Klint was also awarded with the DeLasalle Award from Lewis University.

Klint was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church, where he served as both an elder and deacon. He cherished his days on the golf course, with family and friends, at clubs in Joliet and Ft. Myers.

Klint’s family would like to sincerely thank his caregiver, Teni, who lovingly referred to him as her “Old Man.”

Lying in State at First Presbyterian Church, 805 Western Ave. Monday, February 17th from 9:00 A.M. until services at 10:00 A.M. Rev. Bo Mircea and Rev. Dr. Craig M. Herr officiating. Visitation will be held at the Carlson Holmquist Sayles Funeral Home & Crematory, 2320 Black Rd, Sunday, February 16th from 3:00 – 7:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Trinity Services of New Lenox or Family Initiative of Cape Coral, FL will be appreciated.
